Awesome!! The 4th annual Stark Raving Mad is complete with a lot of smiling faces!

Thanks to everyone that raced, volunteered and had a hand in getting this off the ground for us.

Apex Outdoor Gear is super stoked to offer up some fun, pain and glory in the 4th ever Stark Raving Mad Sprint Adventure Race!

Update 1 - 5/5/2010 Canoes are available from Wisner Canoe!
Contact Wisner Canoe at
www.wisnercanoes.com or 231-652-6743. Give them your name and payment and they will handle dropping off and picking up the canoes as well as needed PFD's and paddles for racers.
Canoes (required for teams) $40 per team
Kayaks (for solo racers only) $30

Update 2 - 5/24/10 All participants will be required to pay a State Park daily parking fee.
Registration confirmation list is posted. Please check and make sure your team is on there and everything is correct.

Update 3 - 6/1/10 There will be an increase in potential biking length by 5-7 miles. It depends on the route your team decides on.
Also, optional checkpoints will be offered up on a little more agressive terrain, so be physically ready if you want to attempt them.

Update 4 - 6/4/10 Looks like the Winter Sports Complex will be finished with the first wheeled luge course in North America! How sweet is that? Soooooo, if you want to try it out you have to have proof of health insurance. No if, and's or but's about it. And the excitement continues......

Location: Winter Sports Complex, Muskegon, MI
Length: 6 hour sprint race
Disciplines: Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Trekking & a unique special event (we know, we're excited too!)
Divisions: 2 person coed, male (MM), female (FF) and Solo
Who: Beginner to Advanced
Racer Check-In:
8:00am to 9:00am
Race Briefing:
9:15am
Race Start: 10:00am
Race Cutoff: 4:00pm
Post Race Prizes: 15-30 minutes following cutoff.


Event Cost:
Per Person - $55.00 - The cost includes race swag, post-race food, and some sweet prizes. Racers will be responsible for their own canoe/kayak.

About The Race:
In it's fourth year, the Stark Raving Mad Adventure Race will challenge and entertain. But don't be fooled by the length, it's designed to be fun, fast and totally awesome for beginners and veterans alike. And if having an amazing amount of fun isn't enough reason to come out, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Muskegon Winter Sports Complex.

Racer Check In Information & Directions:

Racer check in and registration will be at the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex located inside the Muskegon State Park.
The park is located at:
462 North Scenic Drive
Muskegon, MI 49445

Disciplines:
Teams will be required to navigate each stage of the race using provided, pre-marked topographical maps. Teams will be required to carry the gear on the mandatory gear list which is posted here.

Trekking / Trail Running / Orienteering:
The total on foot distance will be between 4 - 6 miles - more depending on the selected route. You will see dense woods, trails, sand dunes, open beaches and just possibly Lake Michigan up close and personal! Hmmmm. Navigation will be on pre-marked 1:24,000 scale maps.

Paddling:
Paddling will be performed on a lake with the length varying depending on racer skill. Canoes and kayaks can be obtained through Wisner Canoe. Contact info and pricing is listed above under Update 1.

Mountain Bike:
The mountain bike stage(s) will be around 15-19 miles in length. The course will include dirt and paved roads. Maybe a little "hike-a-bike" too.
