Unfortunately the BreakOut 24 is canceled. We had a hard time making the decision but ultimately we did not want to run this race unless we could do it right and really make if fun.
So thanks for the support and we look forward to seeing you at future AR's and orienteering events.
Apex Outdoor Gear is excited to announce the 4th edition of the BreakOut 24 Adventure Race! The unique stage format of the race allows racers to choose the length of their course, from as short as you want to the full 24. How? All CP's are optional. The idea is to make a race that is fun and challenging for all. Can you clear the course and be the first team back? You'll have to show up to see. If you think you can clear the course, better be prepared to move non-stop from start to finish!

About The Race:
This is an unsupported race that will time out at 24 hours. We will operate out of a central HQ area and racers will return here before embarking on each stage. A note about the stage format: there will be seperate stages with it's own staging area that you will leave gear at. Each stage is independent and unique. No support crew is required, however, if you are training for a race that requires one you are welcome to bring them and put them to work. Solo racers will be responsible for providing their own kayak's. The price of the BreakOut 24 has stayed the same as past years so it remains very affordable for everyone. All will walk away with a great experience and sense of accomplishment for being able to push for 24 hours straight!
Disciplines:
Teams will be required to carry the gear on the mandatory gear list which is posted here.
Trekking / Trail Running / Orienteering:
Expect some very difficult and very scenic trekking sections in this edition of the race. Long pants or leg coverings are advised due to the presence of the ever popular briars, prickers and saw grass (among other things). Total trekking will be around 15 miles.
Racers will be responsible for orienteering throughout the course. There will be sections with unmanned orienteering flags where navigation skill will be required. Some points will be given as UTM's.
Paddling:
Paddling will take place on both rivers and lakes. All canoe's will be provided, but racers are welcome to use their own. Solo racers will be responsible for their own kayaks. Depending on route choice, paddling maybe performed at night. Expect to paddle up to 15 miles for all optional points.
Mountain Bike:
The course will consist of paved road, dirt roads and single track. There will be multiple biking sections. To obtain all optional points plan on riding up to 75 miles. The full course will include several miles of single track.
Fixed Ropes:
We are exploring options for a ropes section and will update racers when it becomes available.
